If you’re an artist by soul, you will probably like to work with the fondant cake frosting. :)

  • Fondant is a cream confection used as a filling or coating for cakes, candies or sweets.
  • It can be rolled and draped over a cake, poured as a glaze or sculpted with.
  • It’s similar to play-dough and it’s edible.
  • You can buy pre-made ready to use fondant in a craft store or baking supply stores
  • You can make a home-made fondant with marshmallows.
  • Fondant is basically white, but different edible colors can be added to tint it.
  • You can preserve fondant up to 6 months if you store it properly. When you use the fondant again, put it in the microwave for a minute, just to soften it.
  • Different aromas and extracts can be added to fulfill the taste
  • As fondant gets sticky and unable to mold, you can add confectioner’s sugar.
  • Before you coat the cake with fondant, it should be coated with a light fruit glaze or a thin layer of marzipan or butter-cream frosting.
  • You can decorate birthday or wedding cakes, cupcakes or cookies of any shapes and sizes with fondant.
  • Fondant can be used to make little flowers for wedding cakes, you can also make different kinds of figurines for your child’s birthday cake.

  1. hi, Im excited to make my first fondant cake asap, i think ive seen and watched enough articles and videos regarding fondants, but there’s one question for me, if i cover the cake with fondant, will it be hardened after a few hours? like a candy? will it crack if i slice the finish product? and also what will be the texture of the design? will it become hard too like a candy? can you suggest me some tips please… I will appreciate it very much. thank you :)

    • Hello! I’m glad you decided to make a fondant cake. Fondant doesn’t become hard (like candy) after a few hours and it wont crack. It only becomes a little stiffer, but not hard. The texture of the fondant is smooth. Also if you make little figurines, they don’t harden. Only after a few days, fondant becomes a little harder. If you make a lot of fondant, you can easily save it for up to 6 months (if you wrap it tightly in the plastic foil and refrigerate.)
