Pizza Dough


Who doesn’t like a homemade pizza? It’s easy to make, it’s cheap and irresistibly delicious. So why buy :) Try making one at home. The first step towards a great homemade pizza is the right dough. So trial by trial, I’ve come up with a perfect recipe for the dough. Here it is:


4 + 1/2 cups bread flour

2 tsp salt

3 tbs olive oil

2 tsp yeast

1/2 cup warm water

1 + 1/2 cup water at room temperature

1 large egg

1/2 tsp sugar


Combine yeast with sugar, 2 tbs flour, and 1/2 cup warm water in smaller bowl. Mix well until smooth and set aside on a warm place.  While waiting for the yeast to rise, place the flour and salt in a large bowl, stir well to evenly distribute the salt. Beat the egg in a larger cup and add oil and water at room temperature. Now pour it into the flour and mix. As the yeast is foamy on top, stir it into the flour mixture. Turn it out onto the counter, which you previously sprinkled with flour and begin kneading. Knead well, for about 10 minutes or so. If it gets sticky, sprinkle with flour, but make sure you don’t exaggerate; you don’t want the dough to end up dense. Form the dough into a ball.

Now you can either let it rise for an hour in a warm place, if you are going to use it the same day, or let it rise in the fridge overnight, if you are using it the next day. Either-way, put it into a large bowl, that you previously greased well, and coat the dough with oil as well. Cover with a cloth or a kitchen napkin and let it rest.

After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the gas, and stretch it into a 15 inch round.
