It’s a tradition in Slovenia, that every year at the end of winter, we like to bake these little treats called “miške”, which means mice. Mice are easy to make and absolutely wonderful.
Add all the ingredients in a medium bowl, mix well with an electric mixer, and set aside. Heat the oil in a medium pot over medium heat (you can also use the fryer). Dip a teaspoon in the hot oil so the dough won’t stick to it. Take it out and ladle the dough. Now put the dough in hot oil, if you greased it enough, the dough should slide off the spoon by itself. Deep-fry the “mouse” until golden brown. Mice float on the hot oil and turn upside down by themselves, when they’re done on one side. Let them fry well on both sides and be careful not to over-fry. If they don’t turn by themselves, try turning them with a wooden spoon. You can fry up to 6 mice at the same time, depending on the size of your pot. Take them out onto a paper napkin to strain. Sprinkle with sugar.
